Outside of sedevacantism, I like Dr. Robert Sungenis. After he recently wrote a nice email to me commending me on my fight against Tim Staples (although Bob believes I’m fighting outside of the Church in my sedevacantist position), I recently told Dr. Sungenis how much I respect his work and writing. His website is fascinating and I highly recommend it!
Clink on titles below which I demonstrate those things that I believe Dr. Sungenis is in error:
One interesting thing about your main page, its all “against”.A against B stuff, a hallmark of communism….
Are you existing onlyto be against someone?????
So the saints who were Against Heretics and Heresies were actually presenting the hallmark of communism?
Deafening silence from DP.
However much you respect Mr. Sungenis’ work, the man is not a “doctor”. His so-called Ph.D. comes from an unaccredited diploma mill in the Republic of Vanuatu which carries absolutely no weight at all. Aside from Mr. Sungenis’ “field” of “religious studies,” they also offer (fake) degrees in New Age Studies, Shamanism, and past-life regression. He may be respectful to you, but sadly, he is a fraud. You might consider changing the page title.
Do you have proof outside of wikipedia?
He discusses it in this interview at 19:36:

In this interview, he confirms that he received his so-called degree from Calamus. You can certainly look up Calamus and discern quite a bit from their web site.
He defends himself there, but he argues:
1. It is not a diploma mill because he had to write a dissertation and it took him 2.5 years to get his Ph.D. (!)
2. It does not require accreditation because it is legally entitled to grant degrees by the Republic of Vanuatu. OK, but this is an island nation of 272,000 people, and this degree would not be recognized anywhere.
Of course, one has to wonder why any American would pursue a degree at such an institution, if not to avoid the academic rigors of an accredited university.
His work may very well be good on subjects other than sedevacantism, but he should not represent himself as something he is not. This is not consistent with Catholic moral teaching.
If you spend enough time on Google you can find a lengthy article analyzing why his Ph.D. does not even come close to the rigor of an accredited program, but frankly, one look at the Calamus web site should be enough for any rational person.
Very interesting! Thank you. It’s weird getting this email about him when I’ve been discussing sedevacantism by email with him the last few days.
After thinking about this situation, it seems to me that none of it matters. Sungenis has proven that he’s as capable as any PHD from an accredited school. So his school doesn’t meet American standards, but American standards aren’t so hot either. I have friends with what you call real PHDs and I’m not too impressed with their knowledge unlike Sungenis who’s pretty sharp (except when it comes to sedevacantism). As for (fake) degrees, your accredited schools give them out in religious studies. I wouldn’t give you 2 cents for the decrees handed out from Asbury seminary the next town over from mine. I’ve seen their “doctors” at work, and it’s pretty sad. Their religious arguments aren’t any better than a fifth graders. Sorry, but that’s how I feel about it.
