Steve, I’m so glad you told me about this.
Steve,
My son Justin is a former Marine. He wasn’t really prayerful [I’ve not seen him on his hands and knees] My
I heard this story years ago and have never been able to verify it. I doubt its authenticity.
blessed are those who have not seen yet still believe.
John: 20:29
Jorge,
That is a fine profession of a faith, but it does not authenticate the story.

This is a neat story. I do believe God sends angels as His messengers to protect us, and to fight off the demons around us, but I can never justify praying to Saints instead of God Almighty. You pray to our Heavenly Father, then you trust in Him to protect you, and through Him, an angel may come as seen all those times in the Old Testament.
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and grace to help in time of need.” In that letter to the Hebrews, we are told that we do not need any divine intercessors, but that we can approach God directly ourselves, with confidence, that he may answer our prayers. Hebrews 7:25 also says ,”Consequently, He (Jesus) is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” As the Trinity, anyone we pray to besides God Himself would have to be part of that Trinity, therefore l, we use the Holy Spirit as judgement, pray to Christ for salvation and intercession to His Heavenly Father, and that our prayers will be dealt with. Jesus can do it all on His own, and does not need help from Saints or His mother Mary. Don’t forget what 1 Timothy 2:5 says about there being “one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.”
Even the Holy Spirit will intercede within our hearts, this is why we are a temple, harboring It. The Spirit is our Godly conscience, that will give us wisdom and discernment, and guide us on where we need to go. Romans 8:26-27-“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes.”
We have the Trinity because God gives us all we need; a Father, a Son and meditator, and a Spirit for spiritual guidance.
It’s not about praying to saints instead of the Almighty. I explain here: https://stevensperay.wordpress.com/2009/04/25/the-truth-about-the-blessed-virgin-mary-in-a-nutshell/
That story has been around 4fifty years. I never could validate it. This is how myths start. —————-

What would you need for validation? I take it, you don’t trust the person telling us how he spoke with the Navy Chaplain Father Walter Muldy about it?
You claim to have got this story second had and third hand to me. The chaplain must have got it from someone which makes the degree of separation further from the source yet. If one could speak to the person this is supposed to have happened to I imagine the story would be much different. I have had enough experience in this life not to pass on validated stories like this one.
Nice fable though.
The person telling the story said that he spoke to the chaplain at :40. The chaplain verified it. Would you believe the chaplain or the person if you had talked them personally? You call it a fable but you don’t know. I have a friend who thinks the story of Jesus is a fable, too.
If u r happy with the story, enjoy and take comfort in it great. All I am saying is I HAVE HEARD BETTER VERIFIED STORIES THAT TYRNED OU TO BE much distorted.
True, but I have no reason not to believe it. Since the story is from a letter written by the person named Mike, to whom it all happened, the only person who could have distorted it was him. I remember hearing a story by an ex-sniper in Vietnam tell how he watched a whole platoon get killed by an unusual round ball of light that passed through them. When he got back home and read the report, it said they all had been shot down. The man was very believable. I personally know the man Lynn Hutton in this video at 1:12:29: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3xIMgKY0gw This happened within 2 miles from where I grew up. Mr Hutton took my brother to the very spot that he saw the sasquatch. I have no reason not to believe him. I’m actually quite skeptical about a lot of stories, but I’m not so quick to call these people liars.
I think your response says it all.
I add, from your response “…Since the story is from a letter (purportedly) written by the person named Mike, to whom it all happened, the only person who could have distorted it was him. …”
You say “but I’m not so quick to call these people liars.”
So quick as whom? Nobody has called anyone a liar.
I doubt the story. You doubt God’s infinite love and accept the fable of Him burning men forever.
We are where we are- each one. No reason to attack each other.
I don’t doubt God’s infinite love and eternal hell of fire is not a fable. Also, you believe God sends people to burn in hell temporarily, right? How do you reconcile that with an infinitely loving and merciful God?
I’m not attacking you.
